Hi my cars been leaking oil about 1/4 of a cup a day and it never used to we do not drive carelessly and try to take care of it but its been leaking oil slowly from the front of the engine its a good car besides the leak. cant afford to fix it properly right now is there a quick fix? The car is a 1993 Subaru Impreza AWD Thanks.

There is plenty of quick fixes. The hard part is finding the leak. Your engine bay is probably pretty black & grimy from 15 years of loving use. This makes spotting the leak nearly impossible. Here is a few tips to help u locate it. Park over a clean piece of cardboard overnight. While the sun is out (you need the light) observe where the puddle is. Extrapolate upwards & try to find the leak. You will have to feel around to find it. Soot & grime is not what you're looking for. You're looking for runny brown/black fluid. If that does not work, u will have to buy some degreaser to clean the motor. Once it is clean, u will be able to spot the leak for sure.

Once u find the leak, if it is coming from a bolt, tighten it down more. If that is not enough, or if it is coming from a seam (where metal meets metal) or crack, clean the area with a degreaser & apply an epoxy or sealant. l recommend JB Weld because it adheres to metal very well. Unfortunately, depending on how much of it u apply, this could make actually repairing the problem difficult. It should last a few months though. If u want a less permanent solution, try backing the bolt out a little, apply RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone to the threads & tighten it backs up. If it is a seam or crack, clean the area & apply a wide layer of RTV over the trouble spot.

And do not worry about what caused the leak. Cars do not last forever. Something always fails over time. No one has the time for the meticulous care & maintenance today is cars need.

There is no quick fix besides parking over something to catch the oil & keep it topped off.

There r plenty of common oil leak sources that r easily fixed. The most common is the valve cover gaskets. These r exposed to pressure from gravity 24/7 & even more when the engine is on. These r actually very cheap & easy to fix.

Other common areas for leaks r the camshaft seals & crank seals. These r not incredibly difficult, but require taking the front of the engine off, including timing belt & accessories.

There r no additives or anything u can do to make a ''quick fix''. The cheapest & only quick fix is to keep adding oil. Especially because of the valve cover gaskets, older Subarus r known to leak oil. Many call this ''marking their territory''. :)
