High pitched squealing noise?
l have a 1994 subaru legacy wagon w/ 140,000. l just had it worked over by a subaru mechanic about 3 months ago. He put on new brakes and changed all the belts. Just last week my car started making a high pitched squeal which is increasingly louder and more frequent. It only happens when l accelerate . It is most noticable at slower speeds and comes on and off.l checked the belts and they seem to be on-line and not too loose/tight. l also checked my power steering fluid and it is full. Any ideas on what is making the noise?
Yes, it is an automatic.My mechanic (who lives in another state) is a Subaru dealer mechanic with 2 of my model and year cars.He checked everything on the car and told me everything looked great.This morning there was no high-pitched noise.It is odd that it comes and goes.Maybe it was because l was yanking on the belts to check them?

Does the car have an automatic transmission?
Sometimes the transmission will have slipping clutches internally that fail and squeal. Bearings can fail and make awful noises as well.

H l did the mechanic put copper greece on your brakes or shims to stop brake squeel next when the car starts squeeling take a can of wd40 spray all the belts he changed if the squeel goes its the belts

It is ur belts. Go ahead & tighten the belts a little bit, making sure not to over-tighten. The belts can decide to slip depending on the moisture of the air & many other variables.

Another old-school trick is to put liquid dish soap on the belts. This can keep them from squealing also. Apply a little bit to the underside of the belt as the engine is running. :) This can be a tiny bit tricky on a Subaru, l have done it before, but it is not too hard to accomplish.
