well i've had my first manual transmission car for couple weeks now...took me awhile to get use to but l would say l have the handle of it now. my question is how do you accelerate quickly or ''drive hard''?

atm l am currently just usually shifting up 1 by 1 at around 3000rpm. what i've read is that is you wanna go quickly you shift at higher rpms like 6000+. l tried that yesterday but did not really notice a diff. l revved up to 6000 shifted gears and it went down to like 4000rpm which is still above when l usually shift. should l be shifting from like 2 > 4 or 3 > 5 instead of 1 by 1? also read something about putting your car in neutral for a quick second and having your rpm drop all the way down to like 1 or 2 and then revving it up. l do not know. usually l shift into 5th at a bit less than 50mph...what speed should l be in when l shift into 5th now if l wanna be accelerating and driving fast?
*btw im not using it for drag racing but l live near a lot of straight roads tat go on for miles and miles so you know just to have some fun and see what this baby can really do

Find the dyno graph. The ideal shift point is where the torque curve and hp line cross over. Any more is undue stress and to the point where the car is out of breath.

The 2009 WRX hits peak torque at 4000 rpm, so you probably want to be shifting somewhere just north of that. 5th gear is not a gear really intended for fast acceleration; you probably want to be doing about 70-75 before shifting into 5th if you're really trying to accelerate as quickly as possible. l usually shift to 5th around 50 MPH myself, though, and I've only owned one automatic my entire life.

For some who race and do not have money for a WRX would want to kill you for that question.

l would not redline the car. You will just wear it out faster, for no real benefit.
Shifting at 4000 seems reasonable if you're trying to accelerate quickly.

For fastest acceleration, Press the accelerator all the way to the ground & let out & shift at about 6300 to 6500. One gear at a time. Just make sure the clutch is pressed all the way in before changing gears & make sure the gear is fully connected before releasing the clutch pedal. Shocking the gears too much, especially 3rd, might lead to a failed tranny & u will have trouble having that fixed under warranty. WRX transmissions r not made for drag racing so keep that in mind.

keep the throttle to the floor, stab the clutch & engage the next gear, disengage the clutch all in a very quick, coordinated manner.i have not seen any dyno graphs of the 09 WRX, but l would assume u would want to shift around 5500rpm

you may want to give yourself some more time before attempting any kind of shifting like l described above though- a few weeks experience is nothing in terms of learning how to properly drive a standard trans car

i thought l ''got the hang of it'' when l first started driving a standard with my first car 16 (modified 88LX 5.0 mustang).i thought it was awesome power-shifting into 2nd & having the tires billowing smoke- however, l was not as good as l thought & ended up destroying my trans during a failed 2 to 3 shift one night. luckily at that time, T-5 transmissions were rather cheap, & l layed off the power-shifting until l had more experience
