Hi,
l have a vehicle with a '90 Subaru EJ22 engine in it.

l have access to a low mileage '97 EJ22 engine to make a swap, but l am not sure of the complications.

l want the '97 as a long block engine, so l am not interested in upgrading the wiring, etc., to make it ODB-II.

l believe the '97 is an interference engine, so l will definitely replace the timing belt.

l do know l will have an exhaust port issue because the '90 has a dual port exhaust, while the '97 has a single port exhaust.

However would l be able to use the '90 intake manifold on the '97 engine?

Are you aware of any other complications l might run into[blocking off ODB-Il stuff, etc]?

the '90 is out of a Legacy while the '97 is out of an Impreza. Just so l understand...should a Legacy->Impreza intake manifold swap work within the years you stated?

l have tried to log into the Ultimate Subaru message board, but my account must have expired, so I am going to contact the moderator about that.

Take care of the problems u mentioned. Concerning the intake manifold, the legacy model interchanges up to year 1990 to 1996, while the Impreza 1993 to 1997.
So that is a maybe.
As for as the difference in sensors & the ECM the throttle position sensor will need to be changed, but other then that just wire in the ones u need, & leave unplugged the ones u do not need.
There may be other problems.
Find a Subaru form for better information then l have.

This has been a headache for all subaru owners...You will need to transfer everything over...the wiring, all the engine components, even the front crossmember...this is why you do not see any Subarus running around with japanese engines..too much work!
