how hard is it to change discs and pads on my legacy 200

easy if in doubt buy a heynes manual

Very easy - as above, go for a Haynes manual if you're stuck, it will save you the money on this job alone. They do not do a Legacy one, but the Impreza manual will be fine for this job.

Easy job as long as you have some mechanical experience and have the equipment to do it safely. l have a hydraulic jack to lift the car and axle stands to hold it on while l change the brake pads, if you do not have this kit or something better then l suggest you go to a garage. Using a standard car jack is hard work and not very safe.

previous posters r correct, it is an easy job. IF.. the car is not rusty

If u live where there is snow, or the car has been exposed to road salt, it could be a pain, especially the rear caliper mounting brackets, because u wo not be able to get a long pipe under the car if u r working on jackstands.

Also, there r little *gotchas* such as having the parking brake disengaged before trying to remove the rear discs (because the parking brake uses the inside part of the rear disc) that can cause frustration

My advice: If u have previous experience & the car is not rusty, get a good set of instructions & go for it. If u r a novice & the car is from the northeast, take it to a good shop & ask them to anti seize everything when they put it back together so u can do it easily yourself next time
