l test drove a Subaru WRX, is it just me, but l noticed the engine had no torque at all, with most cars l let go for the clutch and l can press the gas fast enough so that the engine does not die. With that car l have to be extra careful unless l rev it a little higher than l normally would so it does not shut off the engine.

Off course once l got to range the Turbo kicked in a little, it was fine, but I am not use to reving that high before l let go completely of the clutch.

Each manual car engages little bit differently. You just have to get used WRX.

Good Luck.

P.S. It is possible that there was something wrong with ignition advance (or retard).

Every car has its thing, wrx have more torque than HP stock, Subarus are torque beasts, If its your first time driving a turbo well its pretty different from a NA car. Also some turbo cars suffer TURBO LAG, but from a standing point the WRX should move pretty easily without revving it at higher revs. Also the clutch its different from car to car.

it prob has a hydro clutch witch is VERY differnt from a cable clutch takes some time to get use to.

What you were experiencing is called 'turbo lag.'
l do not like it either.
Give me a torquey, normally-aspirated engine any day.
Not that the WRX is not an amazing car, it is just not what l prefer.

for me its the best l own a wrx. you have to buy the car first then you get use to it.

Subaru clutches start to engage right when u lift the pedal from the floor. You just have to get used to it. If u r used to a car with a higher engagement point, then ur timing is off (ie u need to apply throttle sooner than u r use to).

Also, u need to use full throttle to get full acceleration. The throttle opening & acceleration r not linear because u need to load the engine so that the turbo spools up & pressurizes the intake manifold

if u do not like it, do not get the car =) that is just how it is when u have a 3200lb AWD car with a low compression turbo motor & aggressive clutch.

Also, l recommend u try acceleration the WRX out of a tight 30mph corner in 2nd gear using full throttle. The car can exit that kind of corner very hard & the yaw rate is very easily to control. If u do not understand what l am talking about.. further reason for u not to get the car.

i recently switched from a WRX to a BMW & u should check out the new 3 series the motors feel like they will rev forever & have very linear torque delivery

My 1999 Subaru Impreza is the same way! You have to rev to about 2k rpms for a nice start, thats how Subis are!
