Hey guys, Well im finally buying my first Subie sti tonight (06-23-08). Here are the details;

2005 subaru sti
57k miles
$21,000 out the door


dealer is going to change timing belt, water pump, and tensioner (as it should be changed62k)

do u guys think that this car has too many miles?
do u think im getting ripped off?
l havent heard to much about high mileage sti is before, and l just wondering wut you guys think!? (will it last or will things start to go wrong?)

l have an 02 WRX (Not STi) that I've owned since 02, it currently has 54k on it, and aside from the A/C needing a recharge, I've never had a problem with it.

If it was maintained properly and not modified foolishly by the previous owner, There are many many miles left in the car. And you are getting a good deal having the timing belt done but the manual calls for it at 115,000 miles so either dealer has no idea what they are doing or they will not actually do it so beware. l had 110,000 miles on my highly modified 02 WRX when l sold it so that is not a lot of miles at all.

To be honest from a dealer that is not a bad price at all considering the low mileage. On a personal note l think that is one of the better years with stock ecu programming compared to some of the other ones, not to mention the additional work on the transmission that year.

The fact that the dealer is changing those pieces is not something to be worried about, but it is something to be cautious about, make sure to take a quick look into the engine bay & see if there is a lot of scraping around the front, or any cuts in the inside of the front bumper (signs of a front mount intercooler, & most likely further modification). Other than that l say enjoy the STI, & ALWAYS wave back when another scoob waves at you.

The extended warranty should be decided by this question:

Are u going to modify the car to improve the horsepower/torque, professionally tune, or use it for track days?

Answer:
Yes, then do not buy the extended warranty in my opinion it would only hold u back, & due to some dealerships being finnicky about approving claims would put u in a bind.

No, consider getting the warranty based on three things, ur driving style (too abusive & they may deny claim), the road conditions of ur living area ( does it snow there? is it dry? any rust on vehicles?), & ur current financial situation.

Most important of all though, enjoy the Impreza it will take care of you.

As a Subaru Service Advisor for the Last Seven Years, l can state ''the Sti is have shown ''No'' Noticeable Typical Problems'' Also, we do not recommend Changing of the Time Belt or Related Components for the First 105,000 Miles as per the Owners Manual. (By the way, l have never see one fail on a STI, or WRX for the matter) But hey, since they r footing the Bill, just watch & ask for the old parts back. Seriously, there should not be one bit of problems with those parts. Why don’t u ask them to give u an Extended Subaru Gold Warranty instead of the Time Belt. It would be Money better Spent!. As for the Price of the vehicle, only u can decide what it is worth to you; but, why do not u check KBB.com for the Prices? c.l.k.
