1998 Subaru Outback Manual Transmission.l think it might be the VSS2 but l am not sure.l think l located it looking above on the transmission passenger side.Unclear how to remove.It has 2 wires going into the harness.Help please.
l forgot to mention that the car stalled, then when l restarted it the check engine light was on, and the speedometer was not working.

Seems like you are not experience and you do not have the proper equipment.
Without scanning, you are taking stabs in the dark. EXPENSIVE stabs. At least go to Autozone and have them scan the code for free. Start there.
check engine light by itself means almost anything (related to emission).

l was thinking the speed sensor is bad, but it is sort of strange that it would suddenly go bad just because the car stalled, so l am obviously no help.

It could be the MAF or knock sensor? Take it to pep boys or autozone for a free scan. Check your fuses.
