The saleswoman at the dealership is urging me to go with warranty extension, platinum shield protection and vehicle protection. My question is, is it beneficial to go with these protections or are they more of a money grab? l live in Winnipeg, Manitoba so we have quite wicked winters. If anyone could provide feedback on these plans it would be greatly appreciated! l should (as long as all works out) have my new Forester on Saturday! Very excited to own such a great vehicle!!

l was talked into a paint protect ant once & was a total waste of money. Now they try so hard to get me to buy it but l never fall for it. As far as an extended warranty, It may be a good idea if u can afford it. If the car seems to be in really good shape at the time the factory warranty is about to expire, u can cancel & get a refund for the extended warranty. Or u could do it the other way around & buy the extended warranty later on down the road if it seems like u r having a lot of work done. l have had 2 Subaru is before my current one, all heavily modified & have never taken any of them in for any warranty work. l think the car will be fine.

We have owned at least 6 Subarus and have never had to have any warranty work done - just normal maintenance. Extended warranty plans are a good money maker for the dealership, but a big waste of money for you.

That all depends on the factory warranty offer my the manufacturer, how good is it ?,, how long will you want to keep the car , are you inclined to do allot of off road travel ? you have to weigh it out.m

personally l do not think any of those add ons r worth ur money. Subaru r extremely reliable, & if u want piece of mind u can purchase the same extended warranty from a 3rd party provider for less money. typically, the things most likely to break r not covered, so it is not worth it

i do not know what the other protections r u will need to give more details. in general, it is safe to say almost all r money grabs

other than the extended warranty, the only other add on that COULD be worth while is gap insurance

Whether to get an extended warranty depends how much faith u have in the car u r buying. Basically u r paying up front (or rolling into ur loan plus interest) the cost of repairs u ''might'' need years later.

l have not had a Subaru lately. But l put 106k miles on a 1980, 139k miles on a 1983, & finished the last year of a leased 1985 that was turned in after 4 years at 71,000 miles. All were GL 4WD wagons that had not been babied. Use included pulling trailers (camper or firewood) & regular off roading. The only non-routine maintenence l can remember was an oil pressure sending unit ($60 at the time), & replacing front axle boots on the 83 (it had been log & exposed culvert jumping, & diving through ditches using its front spoiler as mud plow).

you do not need it. Subaru is very reliable, and it is just a quick money maker for the dealer.
