l need an AWD car. l was thinking about A4 certified used...but l heard that a4 residual value is awful...(i.e. it goes to like $5,000 after 50,000 miles...) is this true? l did research on kbb.com and it says its not...
this is what l heard:
1.A4 has a turbo charge engine, which needs to be replaced around 50,000 miles and this costs couple thousands
2. if l were to buy a 2006 A4 and l wanna sell it in 4 years, it would be 6 years old and according to my friend who had an A4 says it will be worth less than the $24,000 new impreza or legacy(i.e. 2008)

if l know that it can hold its value..(at least be worth as much as a 2008 subaru) then l would spend my $25,000 on the used 2006 A4...

l heard A4 is r not that good & seem like junk from a friend of mine who owns one. All l know, is l am really in love with subaru imprezas (mainly STI's) l hear the legacy actually does better with gas mileage. Both the legacy & impreza r dependable & hit really nice speeds. As for the value, l also heard that an A4 will not hold value from my friend who works at a dealership, & he manages the place.

Actually they hold there value pretty well. there r m much higher end car than a Subaru (although l like Subaru is for a non premium make) a if u could find a 6 year old Audi with 50K miles on it for 5K l would buy it in a second (you cant unless its been wrecked) there is a link below to 6 year old Audi A4s an u will see they r still averaging about $15K. Look in the 2nd link & see that the depreciation on a A4 is well below average. so who every told u that Audi is have low residuals was making a generalization ( a $120K A8 has high depreciation as do many of its competitors b/c people who buy in that price range buy new cars so the used ones take a huge hit in resale value 3rd link) last link is the residuals for a subaru Legacy,

Now if u look at the 4th & 5th link the same argument can be made for Subaru in the 4th link a legacy that holds its value well (2.5 limited) & in the 5th link a Subaru that has high depreciation (GT spec B). if u bought a spec be u might tell people that Subaru is do not hold there value well which would be a generalization ( just like when someone tells u lexus is r all reliable not true in fact the GS line is one of the least reliable sedans in its class)

to answer ur question go with the Audi it has higher than average residuals (as does the Subaru legacy 2.5i limited) & is allot of car for the money. buying certified used is probably the best way to go because u also do not have the initial depreciation hit the the original owner had when he drove it off the lot (true of all cars)
