For a clean look.

because after they're off, it looks so much cleaner. The ones that came off my car were so clunky looking because they were so far away from the body. The letters are thick. and so is the glue / tape strip that is used to attach them.

The other reason could be that in the game Gran Tourismo, that is how the Impreza is shown.

The cars look better without badges.
Its not just Subaru.

Some folks just do it so they do not have to worry about some jerk stealing them(yes, those get stolen too). That, and some people like the clean, unmarked look of a car with no makers emblems. Although, l have to admit that every now and then, l see a really nice looking grill emblem and want one just to put with the rest of my odds and ends collection.

For the same reason ever other car make owner does, it is different. Also if a panel has been replaced or refinished its less labor to leave them off. l relocated the badges on my Legacy to where subaru puts them now when it got coupeified.

Some people remove badges from their cars to make them more difficult to identify. Suppose u blow past a trooper at 90 MPH & he wants to radio ahead for help. ''There was a tan.. something-or-other going too fast for pursuit. Request assistance.'' Of course, if the driver noticed the speed trap, he might decide to slow down until he assesses the situation & then any help down the road would not pick him out of the crowd. Subaru is can go freaking fast, in spite of looking like ur grandmother is Sunday car. Subaru is r not as easy to identify by make as something like a Mustang or Altima, so removing the badges might help increase the anonymity factor.
