l submit that you may have a broken motor mount. These connect the motor or transmission to the frame and have rubber inserts that frequently deteriorate and crumble. It may be an expensive job depending on where they are located. Take it to a Subaru or a reputable local mechanic and have him/her have a look at it.

If it sounds like a bang like a wrench on a pipe l have a feeling that you have a bad u-joint on your main drive shaft and/or a bad transmission mount. If it bang every shift when you depress the clutch, it is most likely one of those or both problems. Any shop should be able to find the problem, but l would recommend a Subaru Dealer.

l am not gonna try & give u a definite answer, because without examining the vehicle in question, it is impossible to give a certain answer. What l offer is a list of POSSIBLE causes:
Worn clutch (pressure plate fault too)
Worn shifter bushings
Broken motor mount(s)
Faulty clutch master/ slave cylinder
Internal transmission problem.. worn synchros or the like( if u downshift to 1st or 2nd a lot.. the synchros wear out because they r flimsy)..
Bent/ broken/ worn shift forks

That is all l can think of..never actually had a Scoob trans go bad on me yet.. was always the clutches that failed first.
