is it possible to convert a 2.0 impreza sport 1999 model to a turbo 2.0?
what do l need and how much will it roughly cost?

l would assume you could do this if you put a turbo in it. Good turbo systems with installation will probably run you around 500-600 bucks.

You have to be careful doing this. THe head on the turbo motor is likely different. If u get too much compression, u can blow the engine adding a turbo. l do not know the stats of either engine, but u better ck it out closely before doing it. It might be cheaper to find an engine out of a 2.0 Turbo & then sell yours. Then u have to check the ECU units (the computers) to see if they r compatible or if the pins/harness r the same. It can get involved. Good luck though. l would google some Impreza discussion boards & talk to some of those folks who r knowledgable.

It is possible, yet time and money consuming. A new turbo charger unit, the gasket kit, a new head bolt kit and about $3000 bucks.

u can convert but it will be much easier to install a 2.0 turbo engine. cheeper & easier.
you can get an aneing from a 02+ wrx & drop it right in. the engine blocks r all the same as they r from the EJ family.
the transmission will bolt up as well, all u will need to do is get all the parts which u can do by getting aftermarket parts, such as, Intercooler, Down pipe, exhaust manifold.
you will how ever need a new engine harness & ECU as well & to make easier an after market boost controler.
cheeper & easier then taking ur motor out & rebuilding it for a turbo aplication cause that will require oil feeds & returns for the turbo & coolant feeds & returns.

Well u need the Turbo manifold w/ the turbo for a 2.0 Impreza Sport, could try giving Summit Racing a call for that one, then youd need the downpipe off that an u could just weld it or flange it into ur stock exhaust, id recommend going to an aftermarkets exhaust like 2.5'' for a nice deep sound an more smooth powerband throughout the RPM range, not to mention a faster spool up time for the turbo, dont do a 3'' exhaust so u dont get mistaked as a honda civic going down the road. highly recommend installing a boost gauge an a Wideband Air/fuel Ratio sensor, & if l were u since its a non turbo motor an doesnt have Eagle/Forged rods, l would put an External waste gate on the manifold with a Boost Pressure Regulater set at 5psi, an make sure the Wastegate spring is less than 5psi (should disclose how much pressure it takes for the spring to move on the box the Wastegate comes in) or else it wont open an youll end up with a rod through the block. From the factory the engine is able to handle 7psi max l wouldnt even try to push it that high until u forge the rods/pistons & a billet crankshaft. Or actually u dont have to go as far as that, say u wanna run around 10-13psi, u have to pull the heads off the motor, u can take them or ship them to a Cometic Gasket company an they can make like 1/4'' Head Gasket spacers to Lower the Compression Ratio. As for an intercooler l dont recommend how they have it set up on the WRX or STI, l would do a front mount (behind the front bumper of the car). l dont like they way they have it set up on the WRX or ST l as its on top of the motor an it gets pretty hot underneath there even though it has a hood scoop heat will always rise up into the cooler. Then for the turbo u have to take the oil pan off the vehicle, drill a hole an run a tap through it an u need a fitting that will thread into the hole with a long male end that can recieve a hose from the turbo for the turbo oil return line, then u have to locate where the Oil Pressure Sending Unit on the block is an take it out get a T-Fitting that has the male end at the end of the T that threads into the block & make sure the to Top end of the T r Female so u can thread in the Oil Pressure Sending Unit on one side & the Oil Feed Line to the Turbo on the other. As for the cooler lines u can cut both of the main thick hoses in half (be sure u have catch cans cuz its gonna get messy) an they make plastic inserts that each side of the hose goes on with a male end sticking out of it. Now for cooler performance from the turbo u want the top hose that u cut with the insert in it run that line to the turbo inlet coolant side an the Hose lowest on the Radiator run that to the turbo Outlet side, that way the coolant is still cycling through the radiator an is not bypassing it. As for boost tubes l dont know if they make a prebent kit for this car, might have to bend ur own an cut them id recommond 2.5'' MAX intake piping in the Charge side of the turbo. If it doesnt have a prebent kit be prepared to write down alot of dimensions of where u want to run the pipes an take it to a pipe bending shop an they can bend the pipes to ur dimensions u have written. That l know of they dont make kits for this car but l could be wrong, l would deff recommend doing it yourself, it might take a long time but in the long run u will save ALOT of money an itll be totally worth it. An to relate to the guy who said itll have driveablity/reliablilty problems, it would have no driving or running problems at all (unless u put something on wrong), l turbo'd a 2.5rs that was non turbo an still runs just fine ive had it for 2 years turbo now. Its all about how car smart u r in with what ur doing an know what ur doing. Never broke down once just change the syn. oil every 3k miles, & also im not sure where that guy is shoppin if he thinks it costs 10G is to turbo a 2.0 impreza lol. l did my 2.5rs for $900 (thats about what theyd charge for a totalled/junk impreza in the yard, not including the rest of the parts u still have to buy) & its a 2002. Somethin like this could run from as low as $700 or to have someone else do it could run $4000+ an most of it is all labor. Should help u get a general idea.

Well, you can make it turbo, but if you get a turbo, spend the green and get the good stuff. I've spent money on turbos and believe me, do NOT get a cheap turbo. If you want the most quality, l recommend getting a Subaru Impreza STi is stock turbo, it isnt a gas guzzler, and it will cost about...a bit more than $700 altogether. So yah..

it will be expensive. in the US it costs around $10,000 in parts & labor to do the conversion. ur best bet is to find a wrecked turbo impreza & buy the whole car so u have all of the wiring & misc parts needed for the swap.

it might be cheaper & easier to just buy a turbo impreza in the first place

do not listen to others u say u can do this for a low cost. it takes a lot of money to perform the conversion. u can install a turbocharger on the existing motor & potentially save some money up front, but u will have much more potential reliability & driveability issues than a motor swap
