l recently bought a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback, that was perfect save for a bashed-in door. l found a door online at a local junkyard, but it is listed for a Legacy, and they had no distinction for the Outback.The contact at the yard was not sure if there is a difference, and l do not wanna get the wrong part. I've bought things like wiper blades and plugs for it, and had this same problem at auto parts stores, but this is a body part and l wanna make sure it is compatible between the models. Is there a difference between the two cars, as far as the doors go, or can l get this door without worries?

l have a 98 outback,from 96 to 99 all body parts will interchange,the outback is an option package for the legacy. ( same car) hope this helps

There is no difference in the chasis and panel work on the outback/legacy/liberty. Really just think of an outback as a Legacy/Liberty with higher springs and a 2 tone paint job.

The Outback is a 'cross-country' variant of the Legacy with added extras such as a higher ride height etc. There is a difference with the doors of the Legacy because the Outback doors sport a 'two-tone' color while the Legacy does not.

Nearly everything is the same. l believe the Outback has 15s for tires, as opposed to the 14s l have on my Legacy. All Outbacks have the 2.5 L engine - whereas Legacy has a 2.2 and a 2.5 ( l have the 2.2 in mine).
