So here is the deal. l am a student attending a vocational school for Auto Tech. l currently own a 89 s10 4x4 with 50,000 mi on it. l have to drive 40 mins (about 40 miles as well ) from my house to get to school everyday and with the way gas prices are rising gas is getting expensive for me. also l live in a rural area that in the winter the roads get covered with snow and ice.

l like my s10 4x4 dont get me wrong. l have done allot of work on it and l love having it but its getting to be not so economical to drive everyday

My family has owned many subaru is and l absolutely love everything about them! they are awd and they get 20 - 30 mpg!

My question is, what would you do ? trade your s10 4x4 that gets 15 mpg for a subaru that gets 20 - 30 mpg ? And also needing 4wd threw out the year?


l am also looking for horse power/speed/and performance.
l am very willing to do allot of work to make a very nice car.

have any suggestions for me PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME ANY OPINION YOU HAVE

A used 2.5rs or 2.5i is good for commuting.

Get the subaru but in city driving conditions l usually get about 18 mpg

Comparing a Subaru to a S10 is hard as they r designed for two different things. One is designed more for a commercial application & the Subaru is not, but may provide what u need still.

It would firstly depend on if a Subaru is going to suit what u need to do.

Sure it will be more fuel economical & far safer having full time true AWD but if u can not do what u need to do with it straight up it is not worth ur while.

In relation to living in an area with snow & Ice the Subaru is AWD is going to out perform 99.9% of its competitors not that there r any unless u want to pay double or triple the price for an Audi which taking price into conscideration cannot be a competitor.

So what r u waiting for?

Go get a Subaru! :)

l have owned both types of vehicles.. a 95 S10 4x4, & my first Subaru was a 98 Legacy Outback wagon.. the mileage is a welcome improvement (25 mpg+).. the AWD is awesome.. u will wonder how u ever lived without it; snow will be nothing more than a nuisance.. it makes a noticeable difference in handling even on dry roads, & it is equally capable off of them too.. the only disadvantage is no low range, but l digress.ever been to the NJ Pine Barrens?.. l loved my S10 too.. it was a truck.. & had all the manly advantages that went with it..
But l say from experience.. the Subaru is the better car hands down.. engine is a modified aircraft design. very reliable.. & if u do ur homework.. they've won several rallying titles.. very tough indeed.
