im thinkin of just buying a 01 impreza and converting it into a STi, how much do you think it will cost? dont count the seats and spoilers and the little stuff like everything under the hood of a sti and transmission and all that good stuff

where to begin.01 impreza= non turbo vehicle, so therefore u must turbo ur vehicle if u want it to be a sti. this is going to be at least 2-3k. im not sure how much u know about automobiles & subarus especially, but l do hope u know that u cant just buy a turbo-you must do up-pipe, down-pipe, intercooler, etc. furthermore, sti possess a 6-speed manual transmission. this will set u back another couple thousand. brembo brakes another somewhat costly addition. also, all that ''little stuff'' u talk about adds up! sti is have 550cc fuel injectors, the rear spoiler is at least $500, hood induction, wheels, tires, interior! not to mention, if u cant do this stuff yourself, ur going to have to pay someone to do it. in my opinion, l would say go with a 02-04 wrx, slowly upgrade to be similiar to sti.good luck :)

The guy above is partly correct. For starters u cant just swap in the tranny, u need the whole drive train. Drive shaft, axles,hubs. l have seen these sold as a kit for about 4000 dollars, Than u can not just swap in the engine with ur ECU. You need the ST l ECU but yo do this u need to rewire the car completely. l have seen just the wiring harness for this swap sold for 1500 to 1700 dollars. The motor itself with turbo, exhaust & everyting u need will run u about 5000. So right there u r looking at 11000 to 12000 if u can do the rest of the work ur self. And that is just to get it running. The best scenario is to find a wrecked ST l online that still runs. l have seen people find them for under 10,000 & u will get interior bit is as well. Now if u start with a non running car bought for dirt cheap, u will have a car that is lighter, cheaper, & faster than an ST l & insurance will be cheaper as well.
