Replaced the rear wheel bearings last September after buying the car in June.The familiar ballsy rumble was getting worse and we knew we'd have to fix them.Did so and they lasted until last week.The noise returned and inspection revealed a shot left rear wheel bearing which we originally thought was the drive axles since the bearings were so new.NOT!!Local mechanic thinks either the hubs are warped or else the rear suspension housings/knuckles are damaged and prematurely destroying the bearings.

My questions are:
1.Since the wheels did not wobble perceptively after the last repair, can it be the hubs?
2.Any way to tell if the bearing housings could be the problem without spending the $350 for two new ones or spending $250 for new hubs?
3. Could the wheel bearing issues be related to faulty rear wheel alignment?We did not do that after either repair and probably should've.
4.What role would worn rear drive axles play in this scenario
and any tips on new vs. rebuilt?

if ti repeatedly eats bearings then you need to not reuse the hubs (unless of course the axle nut was not properly installed)

also non factory wheels with improper offsets (tires stick out past the fenders) can ruin wheel bearings. remember that when looking for used hubs that all the subies from the same time period have hubs that will work on your car) like 96 impreza AWD hubs work too. ETC.
