'How do you turn off check engine light on a Subaru outback?

if its newer you may need to see a dealer.
if its older you may need to take it to a dealer find the issue and repair it.

1) Read the owner is manual. It came on for a reason. Sometimes it is just to alert you that you've passed the 5000, 10000, etc mile mark. However, read the manual.

2) Take it in. When it doubt, bring it in to be looked at.

Find out why it is on in the first place then have it fixed this should turn off the light if not take it to a mechanic and have them reset it

It is not exactley something you just shut off. it is on for a reason. Once you fix the problem. you can usually just unhook the battery for 15-20minutes and it will reset the computer. But like l said. if you have not fixed the problem it will come right back on.

piece of cake. take off the neg battery cable for a couple of hours. when you re-connect it the light will be off. if it comes back on then you have engine issues.


sometimes my light comes on when l turn the key and it slips before the engine starts. the car seems to think something is wrong and lights the light.

the check engine light only goes on if one of the sensors is out on the car. you need to take it too subaru and have them scan it and they will tell you what is out. they will also reset your check engine light for you.

yes maybe if u hook out battery terminal but u must find the root if ur eg check on its mean ur engine got problem please seek mechanic for JAP car they should has diagnosis system to diagnos..
but if u insist remove meter and take out the bulb or juz stick sticker to it

take it to your scooby dealer it may be nothing more than a dodgy sensor, then again it could be a hefty repair bill if its a major part that needs attention

#1 The check engine light comes on for a reason. Yes, it may be as silly as u did not close the gas cap all the way, but then there r hundreds of different reasons it can come on.

If it is flashing at you.stop ASAP & get it towed to the shop before u kill it.
If the car has any weird symptoms (hesitation, stalling, bucking, etc.) get it to the shop ASAP.
If u do not notice anything different except for the annoying light being on, it is not an emergency, but u still need to find out sooner then later what caused the light to come on.

#2. You will want to take ur car to a Subaru technician.
(You do not have to go to the dealer!)
Someone who works on them all the time & has the specialized equipment needed to hook up to ur car is computer.
When the auto technician scans the car is computer for the code, it will turn off the light.
BUT, if the car still has a problem, the light will come back on until they fix whatever it is that is causing the problem.
