Looking at buying a 2nd car.Price is obviously an issue so I am specifically looking at a Subaru Liberty 2.2ltr 1990 AWD wagon.Can anyone that has had or has any knowledge on them tell me what are the typical things to look out for on this particular model.It has over 200k klms.

l just bought a subaru & the main thing l was told to watch for was a shot suspension (apparently the suspension is pretty pricey) & to see if the wheel bearings r worn (also apparently pricey). Btw test drive it & to test the worn bearings, accelerate through a both left & right corners at 20-30mph with the windows down & no radio; it should sound like rubbing. Ive replaced the bearings on other cars before, & the price was around $60-100, but l dont know how high they r for subarus. Good luck, hopefully someone with more info on the specific model will respond.

if you were looking to get an automatic make sure that your transmission changes gears smoothly. l have been told that pre 1990 autos have problems. (also expensive to repair). ask owner if he/she has service records of maintenance. if not you dont know if the vehicle has any kind of TLC which is not good .

A1990 model suby is well past its useby date. So you can expect anything to go wrong. Parts are very expensive. Try and buy a car which still has some life in it. generally Euro cars last a longish time than the japs. Japs cars = about 5years. American cars =about 3 years . Euros = approx 10 years.
