l have a 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i. It is a 5 spd manual. My question is to other owners of the car...Is yours as loud as mine? Once l get about 3000rpm's, the motors vibration and noise is unreal. l know the boxer motor is a bit louder and that subaru used less noise dampening to make it more of a drivers car, but l have test driven several other cars that are in its class like the Mazda 3 5door and the thing is super super quiet, even upwards of 5000rpms. l am very hesitant to rev much past 3000 just because of the noise.Anyone else feel the same way? Im not sure if the WRX is the same but one has to assume that it is because it is the same platform and motor. Just wanna make sure that this is normal!

Yes on my '02 WRX u will hear the engine revving, the gears in the transmission whining, the turbospooling up, the bypass valve whooshing etc etc. That is part of the appeal!

however, there were no rattles, or excessive vibration. if there is a lot of vibration there could be a problem with the engine or transmission mounts. Get the car checked out to make sure it is not the case

also, best bet is to go to a meet & ride in some other stock cars (or cars with similar mods to you). if u ride in a couple u can get a feel for what is normal & what isn't

loud is very subjective and basically an opinion,whats loud to you maybe silent to me,if you have concerns you absolutely should take it in to a subaru specific repair shop or the dealer as your under warranty and have it taken for a spin,its possible you have developed an exhaust leak etc.

l own a 2006 2.5i & l have not heard any noise issues with it at all. It is got over 45,000 miles on it & it is still quiet, at least to me. Like others have said, loud is subjective to one person & differs from person to person. l regularly travel on the highway, with the engine at about 3000 rpm, with the radio on, & l can not even hear the engine over the radio unless l really concentrate on trying to hear the engine.

That being said, perhaps u may have an issue with the exhaust, as a cracked pipe or something like that would result in excessive noise. It might be worth ur time, being that ur car is still under warranty, to take it in & have a dealer look at it.

l guess if you're not used to it it can be a little concerning but you can rev the crap out of them without worrying about it. On a conventional 4 cylinder motor, the exhaust ports point out the front of the engine bay or at the firewall so a lot of the sound can be muffled by the engine bay before tou hear much. But in the Subaru, the exhaust ports are pointed right at the road so ther is more of an echo of the engine noise under the car. That is what makes it louder.
