I am trying to get some outside opinions on both of the cars. l have plenty of time to figure it out, but again, l just wanna see what you guys had to say.

The WRX or a 2.0L Miata.

l know there are clear difference between the two as they are AWD and RWD cars, but l wanted to know what you guys think of their reliability, performance, and fun factor as a weekend/track car.

What turns me off about the WRX is that it is claimed to have a weak tranny such that even if you drive it well, the first few gears will eventually start to rumble. That being said im scared of the repair costs because l know that l would be using it for tracking and weekend mountain rides.

What turns me off about the miata is that its a two seater car with virtually no cargo room(it would also be my main car so space is not a huge deal, but it would prevent a lot l guess). It is basically the only low price RWD car that you can get thats almost brand new, besides a V6 mustang.

The tranny is not weak in the early gen cars. The people who break them just do not know that they do not know how to shift & drive properly. Every one of them that post about broken trannies on forums only tell half the story & so many jump on the band wagon & give them a bad name. There r also many people who have over 300hp to the wheels on 02 - 03 WRX is & still have the original tranny.

With that said, the choice is still one u will have to make. The WRX will make much more power reliably & be a much easier car to drive at the limit. The miata will handle a little better & make u a better driver. If it really is a track car, l would go with the miata. They can be bought for so cheap, if something happans at a track & insurance denies coverage, u wo not be out as much. If it is more of a weekend fun car & only going to be tracked a couple times just to try it, l would go with the WRX. The miata may be fun in the mountains & handle like crazy, l do not think l could give up the graet torque or my WRX for it.
