The first thing to make ur car perform better is to tighten the suspension. SPT makes some stiffer springs as does COBB. l would then look to Rallitek or Perrin for some stiffer sway bars & stronger end links. A short shifter too fro better shift feel. As far as power goes, A bigger down pipe with a higher flowing cat & a custom tune will give u about 50hp & more torque ever stock for about $1000. Compare that to a cat back exhaust & an intake for the same price but maybe a 10hp gain on a cool day. So the best bang for the busk is a down pipe & a tune. Find a reputable Subaru tuner on NASIOC.com that is close to u & call them about prices. The price will vary depending on what programs they tune with.

It all really depends on how mentally fast u want ur car to be & how much u wana spend. Modding cars aint cheap.

First off, theres no point in getting a decent tune on a standard ecu (Engine computer) as the ecu cannot be tuned itself, only the afm (air flow meter) adjusted to alter ur afr (air fuel ratio) to give u optimum air fuel mixture, not to rich & not to lean. SO l would recommend an aftermarket ecu first off, dependsing on the type u go for u will be looking in the vacinity of 500-1500$ such brands u should look into r link ecu, motecs if u search for a possum link that is a link computer developed by possum bourne a NZ rally driver who specialises in links for the wrx & for very reasonable prices. l would personally however go for a Megasquirt. A megasquirt is basically a ecu developed independantly from the big companies. You can get an awesome aftermarket ecu & u r paying for the system, not the brand & u will pay half the price. Best thing is they can be built to order so they r plug & play (you unplg ur factory ecu & plug in the new one no farting round or experience needed) & with the instructions & a bit fo research provided with the unit u can tune it quite well yourself only using ur laptop, or u can choose to get it pro tuned by a pro, but dyno tuning is not cheap. You pay for the dyno time plus the tuners time plus hours of gas on the dyno BUT if ur not confident its worth it & this cost is offset by the cheapness of the units initial cost.

Aftermarket exhaust systems r also a very good idea. For a wrx u would be looking for somthing in the 3'' range off th turbo giving it a nice free flow, u can buy bolt on stainless steel exhaust kits of ebay for wrx is for a very reasonable price so have a look. Getting one custom made is pricey but again worth it knowing its done right.

A boost controller. A standard wrx would be boosting in the region of 10psi standard (roughly. l dont own a wrx, l drive a GTR but this is about right for a standard car) & it would handle l would imagine upto 15-17psi safely on standard internals & turbo. A boost controller is not needed however if u go for an aftermarket ecu as this function is built in & u can change it as u like.

Pod filter s one of the first mods u would look to do. This is replacing the factory fanel & box filter with a pod allowing a larger volume of air to be sucked into the engine & theirfore more power, very cheap mod, but one of the first u should invest in before anything else. It is important to buy a reputable brand in air filters to ensure they keep all the crap outta ur engine. K&N r a very good brand, but so r Greddy & Apexi etc.

Front mount intercooler kit. This will get the air running into ur engine nice & cold & dense allowing more air into the cylinders & a greater power output. A front mount will replace the top mount ur WRX will already have, also mnakes ur car look real staunch. It is important to go for a good quality intercooler & to get one the right size for ur car. If u get to big it has big impacts on ur performance, too small & it restricts again good kits r readily available at good prices on ebay, look for anything reputale branded, greddy, apexi, sti etc. piping can be done by yourself or a muffler shop. The key to intercooler piping is use as little pipe as possible so choose the shortest rout & as few a bends as possible especially sharp bends, if u need bends make sure they r gradual.

Get a boost gauge to see what ur cars doing. This also maybe a function built into ur new ECU via the hand controller, but get another & mount it on ur dash, get a mechanical one as the one on ur ecu will be electrical & mechanical r much more accurate. Reputable brands in gauges is also important. SOr gauges look for somthing like autometer (NOT AUTOGAUGE) or Defi is very good or again Apexi/Greddy.

These r easy mods which induvidually can be done in no more then a days work. Hope it helps.

Regards :)

Horsepower & Money r equals in this equation.

Step one: Dyno & Reflash
This is the first step in tuning the factory computer to ur engine. Not every engine is the same so the ECU needs to be calibrated. Some companies offer money back if u do not get a 30whp gain. Look into Dynocomp.com. They r located in Phoenix & usually tune high hp cars, like 1000hp+ on a daily basis.

For parts & bolt on toys, that is a lot of research into how u drive ur car & what u want it to do. If u want to SCCA race on the weekends tune suspension (Tein, KYB, COBB, H&K, Eibach, B&G). But if u r SCCA Rally racing it, stiff suspension sucks!

Intake: AEM, Injen, HKS, GReddy, K&N, SPT, IceMan, ARC, Perrin

Exhaust: HKS, Invidia, GReddy, DC motorsports, Magnaflow, A'pexi, Fujitsubo, Injen

Computer: GReddy, AEM, A'pexi, HKS, F.A.S.T. (forced air technology), Dynocomp Tuning, Kingpin Motorsports

Suspension: B&G, Tein, H&K, Eibach, HKS, Koni, Bilstein, KYB, Tokico, Cusco, COBB, Freedom Design, SPT, DC Sports, GReddy, Perrin, Tanabe

Tires: Falken, Yokohama, Bridge/Fire- stone, Khumo, Wanli, Michelin, Dunlop, Pirelli

Turbo: HKS, Greddy, Garret, Turbo XS, Turbonetics, IHI

Intercooler: HKS, GReddy, ARC, Blitz, Injen, Perrin, Turbonetics

Cooling: ARC, Blitz, Fluidne, GReddy, Koyo

Lubrication: Amsoil, Redline, Lucas, Motul, GReddy, WIX, Bosch, Armstrong racing dry-sump, Magnus Pumps

Chassis: SPT, Raxle, Precision Shaft Technologies, ACPT, PST Carbon fiber driveshafts, Fidanza

Transmission: SPT, Exedy, ACT, Cusco, B&M, Perrin, AASCO, Kaiten Karui, Fluidyne, Energy Suspension

Fuel System: Perrin, HKS, AEM, Blitz, Gizzmo, GReddy, MSD, Bosch, SPT, SP engineering, Turbo XS

Ignition System: HKS, SPT, AEM, Okada Projects, Sun Auto, MSD, Accel

Brakes: Brembo, Project MU, Endless, Willwood, Baer, Powerslot, Axxis, EBC

Hope this list helps a bit. As u will notice, there r some companies that support a lot of the systems in ur vehicle like AEM, HKS, GReddy & friends. The more of the same brand, the easier ur life will be in the build process, because they r designed to work together.
