l have a 2001 Subaru with 200000+ miles on it and its coming up on three months since the last change.if l wait another month will it hurt it?ive only driven it about 1600 miles so far.any advice would be great, thanks! :-)

Using ''Mobil 1'' .. change every 6,0000 Miles . Engines need clear oil . pull the Dip Stick .. if the oil is to dark to see the stick . you are past Due . If the Dip stick is dark after wiping it clean .. the oils have not been changed on time and the inside of the Engine will be same . Dip stick readings should always be clearly visable . Diesel Engines > Oils turn dark right after change . When in doubt .. change the oils and stay with same Brand .

l change my oil every three thousand miles and l have never had an engine problem related to oil

Subaru recommends 3,750 miles between changes. l generally change mine a little more often because Subarus start getting noticeably worse gas mileage as it get closer to time for an oil change.

In the maintenance & repair manuals for the car there r two different intervals for an oil change with depending kinds of oil & if the engine is under severe use or regular use.
Depending on what kind of oil u use & primarily what kind of filter u use can determine the life-span of ur oil. If u use Royal Purple, Ams Oil, Lucas Oil, Motul or high grade oils with a good WIX or Amsoil filter u r guaranteed under the company for 25,000 miles or 1 year between oil changes. They will cover the cost if they r wrong. Amsoil.com
If u use a regular oil like castrol, Mobil One, Quaker State or Pennzoil with a Auto zone style paper filter u need to change it on the regular pattern 3500 miles or whichever ur owners manual states.

Now, just because u do not drive 3,500 a month does not mean the oil wont lose it is lubricating & viscous properties. A car that averages 3000 a year has more problems with deposits & sludge than a high mileage car.

If u wait to long it can be bad, but more than likey, u would have to wait awhile before it really damaged anything. Keep checking ur oil during fill-ups at the gas station & make sure u have enough & it is not black, & get it done as soon as it fits in ur schedule.
