l have a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited. When l get to around 25mph l hear a high pitched sound (although not as noticable at this speed). The pitch of the sound is directly related to my speed. The faster l go the higher the pitch. It is still present when l put in the clutch and does not happen when l sit idle and rev the engine. This leads me to believe that it isnt my engine but something with my wheels, maybe a ball bearing?? Has anyone had this problem before? or have any idea of what it might be? Thanks.

It could be a wheel bearing, the transmission or most any other part of the drive train. Best to have a mechanic identify what is causing it and repair it before it goes out and leaves you stranded somewhere.

l drive a 99 Forester, They need the rear wheel barings changed more then most cars. maybe all subaru is have the same problem. where is the sound coming from?

way you say it leads me to think wheel bearing but could be brakes or belt really a few other things as well best just to have it check at a shop and know for sure

It is definitely a wheel bearing. You need to try to determine which wheel it is coming from and get it taken care of right away.

It is most likely a wheel bearing IF you are driving and when you turn, the sound goes away. Wheel Bearings will usually make noise that will go away when turning, or they make noise when turning, and it goes away when driving straight. Is the sound coming coming from a certain wheel?
