l have had my 2.5 legacy for a couple of years now and it is a 99. l blew up the engine in it but that was because l was being stupid and running it WAY too hard. l got a new engine dropped into it after that so l should not have any problems with it, and l do not either. subarus are pretty reliable. they do VERY good in the snow and rain.

There is nothing wrong with a Subaru except resale value. A good vehicle but worth little when selling.

If u search for ''overheating subaru'' on the internet, u will find out. The 2.5 engine in those years blows head gaskets habitually. My 1998 Legacy Outback did & l rebuilt the engine, now overheating again, 25,000 miles later. Subaru did not resolve this problem until after 2003. Head gaskets, radiators, water pumps, thermostats, & on & on. on average the problems seem to start around 125,000 miles. Talk to the seller. l have found carsurvey.com to provide good examples of what happens. l still love it. She handles fabulous in snow & slick conditions.

Whoever posted the response that the resale value of Subarus is low - they r totally wrong. Subarus have one of the highest resale values of most any car. Go to any used auto dealer or a Subaru dealer & see how many used Subarus u find there. It wo not be many, & they wo not be there for long. People buy them because they have such a good reliability record. Granted any car is going to have some problems at some point during its lifetime, but if u do the normal maintenance & take care of it, u should not have any significant issues.

The head gaskets have a troublesome history.. but dont worry about it, its a very small percent of the engines. Much less than problems youll find with other (non-Subaru) cars
The Subaru 2.5 (also known as EJ25) is practically bullet proof. BUY IT.
