ODBIl says both ''torque converter clutch solenoid circuit'' (P0740) and ''torque converter clutch solenoid circuit electrical'' (P0743). Looks more electronic than mechanic, no ? Any easy way to check this out ?

Purchased the car two weeks ago. Check engine light appeared when l went in high RPM to evaluate the engine.

Sorry, 1996 and newer cars must be scanned by trained mechanics who get factory training often to learn how to use these codes to help them find the real cure.

P0740 shows up everytime there is a problem in that subset, in your case is the P0743. you may need a worn out solenoid replaced, or it could just be corrosion in the plug.

Sounds like solenoid B may have gone bad.a somewhat common problem. But more likely u need to change ur trans fluid, dirty fluid will cause all kinds of problems with a subaru 4eat. There is a drain plug on the trans, so no need to drop the pan, filter is a Metal screen so do not waste money replacing that. l would drain, fill, run, then repeat at least one more time. You will get approx 5 quarts out each time, just under half of whats in there. This is a very well built trans, with miles that low a fluid change will most likely solve (mine has 240,000 miles so far). If not, then l would drop the pan & test the A&B solenoids with a voltage tester (if it gets to that point, go to a subaru forum site, someone will walk u thru it). Also, do not confuse the dipstick for the trans w/the one for the front axle when re-filling.they r almost identical.
