l bought a 2009 Impreza (brand new) last week. The car had 27 miles on it, for which the sales person told me that it is normal for a new car to have a few miles on it. That the car incurs those miles from people ''test driving'' a car ''to the corner and back he said.
Maybe I am wrong, but l always thought that that is what ''Demo'' cars are for. That NEW is supposed to be undriven. Not used for test drives. Am l wrong? Thanks.

At toyota.. we have to test drive the cars for 5 miles or so when we get them. to make sure everything is perfect. they usually have 3-8 miles on it when we get it, from around the warehouse, to the truck, the truck to the lot, etc. Id say thats fairly normal. if it was a special order car or something, then nobody but the technician on the test drive should have touched it. Hope that helps

nope its NEW and about right.. they have to drive them to load and unload them. they drive them off plant floor to lots then to load and to unload and on the dealer lots easy to get a few miles.. if its a demo it will have hundreds of miles not only a few

Hiya !

You're right - ur new car should not have been used as a 'demo car' - unless u specifically bought one (you can buy ex-demo is cheaper) The dealer should have a selection of cars specifically for test driving.

Your new car should have been delivered 'from stock' - & the only mileage it should have had was maybe a mile or two - from driving it onto & off the ship that delivered it to the UK, followed by the distance from the car compound to the car transporter - & finally from the transporter to either the forecourt or ur home - wherever u collected the car from !

That is a lot of test drives but my current WRX had 120 miles on it when l bought it new. l bought the 06 late in 07 for about 6000 off the sticker price so l could not pass it up. No problems with the car. l would not worry about it. Aside from test driving, sales men might take the car to get lunch or even take it home for the night because they like new model cars to be seen out on the road to get attention. It is completely normal and nothing to worry about.

A demo car will have far more than 27 miles on it. The 27 miles could come from several places. They were driven onto the truck, off the truck, gas station to fill the tank, dealers rearrange the lots all the time, inspection to make sure everything is ok, they might even drive it at the plant to a storage lot before the truck picks it up.

You cant possibly wreck a car in 27 miles. Even if someone did hurt it that is what warranties r for. You r making a big deal over nothing.

No big deal - 27 is not a lot of miles to have on a new car. I've test driven cars that has as many as 200 miles or more - it all depends upon how long the car is on the dealer is lot.

They r required to start the warranty at whatever miles the car has on it whenever u take over. So in other words, ur warranty would be good for 36,000 + 27 miles.

Any new car will have some miles on it unless u get it the moment it rolls off the delivery truck. Even then it probably has unrecorded mileage on it because they may have test driven it at the factory.

A ''demo'' car is a perk for a salesperson. This is normal for the car to have miles on it. It is obvious that you are newbie when it comes down to buying cars.

all new cars are driven and have some miles they come of the delivery truck like that. l have purchased many new cars (about 8) most of the had 25 or more miles

Im sorry but cars cant magically fly. They have to be driven from the manufacturer to the boat and then from the boat to the dealer so he can give it to you. l guarantee you will never buy a car from a dealer with 0 miles on it because the cars are not built there ;)

Enjoy your impreza, you must be so proud :D
