so i have a 2004 wrx and i just blew a rod yesterday and i am wondering how much it's going to cost to fix it.

i believe it is going to cost you a lot.

but also depends on what rod. and where you go.

a thrown rod means a rebuild is in order. usually they cost anywhere between $1200-2500 depending on the damage. it sucks to be you right now. (sorry)

A 2004 WRX, u will need to take out the engine. Take out the valve cover, the timing belt, the sproket.

If ur dealer (subaru dealer) can fix it, it will cost around 3000 USD.

If u r talking about the rod at that center of the engine, l would recommend u to get an aftermarket engine (or those rebuilt already) & just replace it. You may able to replace it by yourself if ur equippment is ready.

Dealer will over-haul ur engine, that will go around 1-3 days of work. Your engine will have new rod, new seals, timing belt, etc.; but if the dealership did not have the mechanic who knows what to do; u may end up getting more trouble.

You have quite a few options if it is a blown rod. Do u know for sure it is a rod? Because if it is, chances r there is too much scoring on the cylinder walls for a rebuild. You can get a used short block out of another 2 liter WRX for as little as $500. A new 2.5 ST l short block can be bought from a dealer or a vendor of new dealer parts for about $1800 but u will need new tuning which can run another $1000. A built block from one of many reputable builders start from about $2500 with forged pistons. Bottom line is what is ur budget? If l was in ur shoes, l would take the opportunity to upgrade to a 2.5ltr while the motor is out. l have had & 02 WRX & now drive an 06 & the 0.5ltr makes quite a difference. It does suck to be in ur shoes but think now u have the chance to upgrade a little & have a new reliable engine to start new with. If u really r on a tight budget, find a used short block from a wrecked car & make sure to put a new water pump & timing belt at the same time just since everything is out. If u have a shop do this, l am going to guess the cheapest it will be is around $2500 with labor.
