l had a remote starter installed in my car and they permanently installed one of my chipped keys under the hood to bypass the security leaving me short one expensive key. Is this necessary? Thanks

It is not necessary to have the key itself under there but it is necessary to have a resistor in line in place of that key.

Yes it is necessary to bypass the security protocols in an anti theft device for remote start installation and operation. l strongly suggest you get another key made as you will eventually need it.
