l came across a reference to a 1972 Subaru ''62'' in the NHTSA recall file.l can find no reference to a model 62 produced by Subaru, in 1972 or any other year.

However, there is a Subaru 1300G that uses a EA62 engine, and perhaps this was the car they're referring to?I am looking at a recall for seat belts, if that helps.

l took a look, for a good 20 minutes or so, and was not able to find anything at all about it, except for probably the same thing you did, an NHTSA recall file, that mentions 62 as a model.

I'd say your guess is pretty solid, it is probably the 1300g, that uses the 62 engine. Not a single clue why they'd reference it that way, but with the lack of info elsewhere..that is probably it.
