Hi all, l am thinking of buying a 2008-9 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited, but wanna find out what the owners think of it. l wanna find out the reliablity, real life gas mileage (city and hwy) and maintenance cost. l am not planning to do any mods or any kind of tricking out. Just want a good, reliable, everyday commuter car that will drive me 70 - 75 miles everyday on the backroads of Maryland. Thank you all in advance.

l have a 1998 Outback Limited wagon, which is a Legacy, with the 2.5 engine & an automatic transmission. l purchased new from a dealer in northern Wisconsin because our local dealer is dishonest. l have about 126K on it. Fuel economy is about 18 around town & 28 to 29 on the highway at 70MPH.
My Subaru has been trouble free. Normal maintenance is done by a qualfied, independent, local mechanic. l replaced the oil pump, water pump, timing chain & spark plugs at 98K. Change the fluid in the transmission & rear differential every 40K. Oil changes with Mobil One 5-30 every 6K. The original tires were Michelins, which gave a poor ride, poor fuel economy, & bad traction. l tore them off the Subaru at 30K (should have ripped them off the car much sooner, but hind sight is 20/20), replaced them with Bridestone Dueler HT's, & got about 85K on them before they wore out. Dueler HT is r very expensive, but nice tires for the Outback. After much research, l now run BF Goodrich Traction TA's. They were substantially less expensive, ride better & give better fuel economy than the Bridgestones, & r fantastic in the snow & rain. l replaced the battery a few years ago & am due for a new one this winter. My car has NO rust. The leather interior is beautiful. That is it for maintenance expenses.
l am not hard on my Subaru. l drive 12 miles round trip to work each day. Weekends l haul two huge Newfoundland dogs to obedience trials. On my days off the Newfs go to Reading Dog at school & therapy visits at nursing homes. We take several long road trips each year. My street is series of long steep hills, & my driveway is 67 steep feet up hill to the garage. The city takes days to plow our neighborhood, but never mind that. The Outback goes like a mountain goat when we have deep, heavy snow.
My Subaru Outback has never left me stranded. My wife has a two year old Forester LL Bean with about 20K, & that car is wonderful. l just wish she'd let me drive it once in a while. We r extremely pleased with both our Subarus & will recommend them to anyone. We have many friends with Outbacks & Foresters around the US, & they wo not drive anything else. In case u want to buy American, Outbacks r built in West Lafayette, Indiana.

l really think that is the car u want. Subaru has been using the engine in that car for over a decade so they have the reliability down. They have one of the best AWD systems on the market too. Maintenance is no different than any other car. Fluid & filter changes r cheap & plugs r easy & cheap to change too. My first couple WRX brakes lasted over 60,000 miles & timing belt change is not needed till 105,000 miles so it is pretty cheap to maintain. My friend has an 04 Impreza RS which has the same motor & he gets about 19 to 25 mpg depending on how he drives.

Great car, very safe and reliable, maintenance is a bit more than regular cars but if its maintained properly it could last you up to 200,000 miles. combined mileage is about 30 MPG. The AWD is fantastic.

l have the 2008 Legacy 2.5i SE and l get 23-25 mix mpg in the winter...and 27-29 in the summer. l have put on 22k miles and l am still in love with getting behind the wheel of that car. In the winter l laugh at the audi's, nissans, and basically all other non awd cars. Its quiet simply the best car l have EVER owned. l already think that when the day comes to buy a new car again...it definitely will be a subaru!!

HI, l own a 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i, it has had NO problems, & it has 97,000miles! l had the brakes done at 93,000 for the first time as well. Believe it or not, l easily get 32mpg on the highway,25 in the city, even though its rated at 26.
It goes through 3 feet of snow with no problems
Honestly, im on my 4th Subaru, & l cant understand why everyone does not drive these cars, they r reliable, safe, affordable, fuel efficient, & great cars.
Buy it, or else u will regret it come winter.
