l do not at this point own a wrx, l was just wondering about how much work at money would be necessary to do this or whether it is worth it at all.

More then likely, but you would not want to do this as your gearing would be all screwed up in your difs.

It is possible, alot of work to be done, but it is possible. Id recomend using a shop to do the swap if you are. l considered it for my 04 WRX.

If you goin to do heavy mods to it, it would be better to do because the STi tranny can handel up to 1000hp and the same amount of tourque. The wrx tranny can only handel like 100hp more than stock

Yes it is. It pretty much bolts up. It is not worth it though. The 5-speed is really strong, not just 100hp more than stock either. It will handle something like 650hp. You would save money getting stronger gears for it though. And plus the 5-speed weaighs less. The only real differance between a built 5-speed & the 6-speed is the final gear. The 5th gear in the 5-speed is equal to that of the 6th gear in a 6-speed for the most part, might be a slight hair off, but not enough to make any differance. And of course the 4th gear is the same all around. So 5th gear in the 6-speed is odd man out, & it doesnt really matter.

remember that selling your WRX and buying a WRX ST l might be an easier solution.

Yes, but it is better to just buy a stregnthened 1-4 gearset and install a 35 front - 75 rear split street center differential. If you use the sti gearbox you will have to change out the rear diff because the ratio will be different and you will burn out the v/c within a week.

l have a friend with a 02 wrx and he dropped the sti tranny in it. he has a 06 tranny in but l would recommend the 07 tranny b/c in my 06 sti l have to go into fifth on a 1/4 mile where as my friends 07 stays in fourth. it has different gear ratios. l wouldnt do it unless your going to throw alot of money in it and make it godly.

Have u driven a six speed?

l just test drove the Liberty/Legacy Spec B GT with its six speed & the MY08 WRX with its five speed.

The six speed managed to drive me crazy in the space of 30 miles! The fifth gear was just too low for highway driving.

l bought the WRX mainly because there was no five speed option in the Spec B! Unless you're going to consistently be racing at 150mph plus, what on earth would u want all those gears for?!

The MY08 Rex is awesome by the way :-)
