So, l was once used to older cars. I am getting a new used car, and it is got this clutch that feels tight- l have to back off of it halfway before touching the gas.It sure is quiet, and l never scratched the gears or anything duringthe test drive, so I am thinking this is a good thing for a car with 100K, right?
(l got an answer to my previous question that would suggest it is not, but l can not tell.)

you dont want the clutch to go to the floor and some are hard and some soft

Halfway seems like a little more play than there should be if the clutch is ''tight''. If it were a new clutch I'd expect no more than a couple of inches before it begins to engage. A new clutch would be a few hundred dollars, but you might be able to postpone that for a while if the clutch is not bad.

Hello, depending on how new the car is for year wise the vehicle is probably equipped with a hydralic clutch and that will give you a way different feeling than a older vehicle as they have a mechanical setup. The thing to look for on the one you test drove is another reservoir like the brake master cylinder. If the car had a bad clutch you will feel it slip and smell it when you get on it hard. Otherwise tightness can be a good thing, less slippage Hope this helps yaa

your clutch when pressed by hand should have 1/2 inch give.Try adjusting the clutch cable.Usually takes 2 people to do this. One adjusts and the other pushes down on clutch pedal with his hand.Like l said should be 1/2 inch play in the pedal.

It depends. It might be like that or if its too tight were your using alot of force you might want to take it to a mechanic and have them loosen it up just a little little bit

So the clutch pedal travels 1/2 way? It sounds perfectly normal to me. Most of my standard trans cars have at least 1/2 way point travel. Sounds like you've found a nice solid ride. good luck.

A ''stiff'' clutch can indicate problems with the throw out bearing.
But that should not detract from your enjoyment.
But get it replaced, if and when you do the clutch.

it is certainly better than a lot of clanking and grinding! seriously, take it to a mechanic and have it adjusted.
