Does it really matter if you use a higher octane in a wrx than is recommended. l know not to use lower or the engine may start knocking!

It will not help you, and may actually reduce your gas mileage.

l recommend foll wing ur owner is manual. Your performance wont be any better running a higher fuel than recommended unless u have a whole lot of aftermarket performance stuff that requires it.

l know Subaru did some real life driving on US highways with their turbos & 6 cylinders a couple of years driving different octane levels. That is partially why u will see the newer 6 cylinder Subaru is no longer require 89 octane although it is still recommended.

The performance will not get better with the higher octane. You can burn the $ if you wish. BUT...Once you make up your mind, do not go back and forth between octanes as that messes up the engine as it has sensors that slightly adjust for octane variation. Too much swing will reduce mileage as the engine will not adjust.

If your car is a Japanese IMPORT.. then yes its best to run it on the highest octane fuel you can! as the cars a built and mapped to run the higher octane! if you bought it as NON import then it will most likely be built to run on your country is octane limits.. Yes running a car on less octane than its built for will eventually have effect and you will notice the car will not perform anywhere near what it should!
