Insurance will be high $. This car is sporty and turbo-charged. It should be fun to drive.

Friend, yes it will. Try going for a civic our something like that make history with your insurance and then switch to the Subaru. Or do the most famous trick. Buy a cheap Honda and tell the insurance that it is your main car. And get the Subaru and tell them its just a leisure car for the weekend. good luck

The Subaru WRX is known for it is speed. It was specifically designed to attract young buyers who want high performance. So, if u worry that ur teen might be interested in racing his vehicle it is NOT a good idea. Can u imagine a new driver handling a vehicle that is moving 80mph + in a street race!?! Even though ur teen may be responsible, other drivers who r into racing know that the Subaru WRX is raceworthy & the temptation could be too much for him or her. Food for thought.

its plenty good enough. but insurance will be high. just be glad its not the STi version otherwise it would be even higher. impreza is are classified as sport sedans.

Are you worry about your insurance payment? Worry about your son personal safety.

It is too tempting a car for a first time teen driver. It is a car that others will want to race just looking at it. Let him get his experience on an older car so that if he has an accident, it wo not crumple with him in it and tear out your pocket book at the same time. Whatever car he uses for his first, make sure you insure it to the hilt. The chances are high that he will be involved in an accident, whether it is his fault or not. These are just statistics.

very high insurance,(with no tickets in the last 3 years l pay 158/month on my 2.5RS, the WRX was like $400 more every 6 months, l am 22, no accidents) but they are great cars, safe, and reliable, with the safety of AWD. but remember, that is the type of car that makes you want to go fast. just get them an impreza 2.5RS. same car, just no turbo. (well if you really want to get into it, the WRX is a Turbo 2.0L H4 DOHC=220hp, and the RS is a N/A 2.5L H4 SOCH=165hp)

u might be able to bring the insurance premium down slightly by purchasing a WRX wagon instead of a WRX sedan.

l own a 2002 WRX & personally l do not think it is a good vehicle for first time drivers unless they purchase the car & insure it with their own money. It is a fast vehicle that is most enjoyable when driven hard. l hold myself back because l know the financial consequences of insurance increases & the cost of repairing crash damage. Would a new teenage driver have that kind of insight into money? l highly doubt it, & l strongly suggest u think about ways to set limits & enforce responsibility before allowing a teen to drive own that car.

Lastly, the driver needs to have an understanding of how cars work mechanically & respect for machinery, or else there is a high potential for expensive repairs. For example, some young drivers believe that 'clutch dumping' (revving the motor to high rpm & then suddenly releasing the clutch) is an acceptable way to drive a turbocharged AWD car like the WRX because that is how it is done in Grand Turismo video games.

In reality, this type of driving is abusive to the vehicle, & over time will result in expensive repairs to the clutch & transmission. You as the parent need to be knowledgeable enough about cars to explain these things to the teen, & also have sufficient cash flow to cover the cost of repairs the teen is potential irresponsibility can cause.

l think the 2002 WRX is a great car, & l love driving it, but l knew full well what l was getting when l was purchasing it, & u should too.

yes now the wrx is a fast car yet it has AWESOME handling that you can also feel safe with him driving in all sorts of hazardous weather and road conditions. it handles smoothly and beautifully with awd. insurance will rape u though

l bought my wrx when l was 18 and have no regrets. With that being said, l drove a beater for 2 years before that, and l am lucky that l havent wrecked my wrx. Someone said once that a 16 year old with a wrx has a life expectancy of like 17-18. Insurance on wrx is is 5th highest of any car for a reason; tons of kids have died in them. So get a pos beater, learn to drive then get the wrx.
