A few weeks ago l asked a question regarding an odd sound coming from the left-front tire on my '06 Legacy Sedan.For records sake, the noise is apparent when the car is warm, and once it has been warmed up, it is a constant ''rubbery'' squeaking sound.

l just took the car in, the sound is getting annoying and I am needing to take a trip with it in a few weeks.l still have not gotten a diagnosis from the dealer.The car is still under warranty, so l obviously took it to the Subaru mechanic.What really disturbs me is the fact that a wheel bearing might be faulty at 25,000!!

Is this common/uncommon?What other problems might have been causing this sound?

sounds like a CV joint to me

A faulty wheel bearing creates a constant whirring noise and a popping noise when making a turn opposite of the wheel where the bearing is bad. In this case, you would notice a noise when you turned right.

Sounds more like something loose or rubbing. The dealer should be able to find it.

It sounds like the link rods or the bushings.

l own a Subaru & had a similar noise problem to yours, which had me scratching my head for a while. You did not say if the noise got louder when u r turning a corner?

If it is a squeaking sound (that possibly gets louder as u turn a corner, due to increased side loading) it could be the disk brake pad wear indicators (not all models have them).

The squeaking noise is therefore normal, it just lets u know that it is time to replace the brake pads.

Of course this is just a wild guess, but it has happened to me before & l wondered what the noise was!

there are a small number of bearings (of all types) that fail soon after they start service.
it could be just a freak thing that will never repeat.
