1996 Subaru Impreza wo not drive over 65mph. The Check Engine light came on a few days ago and flashes every time l try to go over 65mph. The car feels like it is going to stall over 65. I am going to try to get into the shop tomorrow, but am leaving on a road trip in two days, and can not be gauranteed it can be fixed before then. Any ideas of what it could be?

l am not a mechanic, but that is why my 'check engine' light has gone on. l can drive over 65, though.

Possibly a fuel filter or exhaust issue.

Wish you had the code, a lot of auto parts stores will scan for free. My guess is knock, cam, or O2 sensor. Hope you can get it fixed before the trip. Those 2.2 is are very durable, so probably nothing major.

you can rent one of those code readers from NAPA or most auto parts stores, then hook it up to your car and get the code that will tell you EXACTLY what is making the check engine light come on
