l have 178,000 miles on it - bought it new 6 years ago. Mostly freeway miles.

I am at the point of wondering if l should sell or....put a new engine in when this one dies? The body and interior are perfectly fine.

My Subaru is aluminum engine block died out on me at 90,000 miles, but maybe l should have changed the oil more often.

New engine = new car. What does that cost? About $3,000.00? Maybe less? l mean, it is not a ''new'' engine, it is a rebuilt one. They do not really make ''new'' 2001 engines, do they? l do not know, maybe they do. If so, I'd think that would cost a lot, & for that kind of money u could consider buying a perfectly fine used high-mileage dependable Japanese car, like a Honda or a Toyota. But if it is under $3,000, I'd stay with the Subaru.

Stop changing or adding oil, and you should expect to go about another 15,000 miles before it freezes up.

You should get at least 250,000 if 2.5, more if 2.2 (2.5 is had head gasket issues til '03). with proper maintanence. There are lots of folks over 300,000 with their soob's.if you like the car l would keep it.

l HAD A SUBARU WITH 320,000 MILES ON IT WHEN l TRADED IT. JUST CHANGER THE OIL, COOLANT AND ADD THE ADDITIVE FROM SUBARU, AND THE TIMING BELT EVERY HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES. ITS A INTERFERENCE ENGINE, BELT BREAKS ENGINE IS SHOT IT SHOULD LAST TOUGH LITTLE CARS..
