You'd probably spend less money in the end getting a newer model with a bigger engine, or if you had enough money, getting a WRX, they are turbo from the factory. Either way would be more reliable, if they even make a turbo kit for the old 1.6 l wouldnt waste the money on it unless you absolutely have your heart set on suping up that engine.

You would get better mileage, And performance from putting a cold air intake on it. The turbo kit would be more expensive in the long run because of the plumbing involved for oil to get to it and the exhaust work and parts to mate it with the manifold.

you can install a turbo on any engine it just depends on how much money your looking to spend. When doing a turbo your going to also want to add an intercooler, upgrade the injectors, upgrade the fuel pump, and possibly add either a short ram air intake or leave the air alone, if you have to money to spend id consider upgrading to a wrx or an sti, those cars are built for boost and have all the neccessary components to handle the power.
