everything works on it , it runs good , looks good , how many miles can a subaru go for?l heard about 3 to 4 hundred k , if you take care of it etc...they are asking 2000 dollars 4 it, l looked it upnada.com and it list higher than what they are asking for it

l would stick with a Honda Civic, Accord or Toyota Camry which have no problem going over 250k. That price seems very high for a Subaru with that many miles.

Use to be $500 for a running car was ok. $1000 for a running car might be good. Be ready to rebuild the motor, trans, brakes and whatever. 200k on any car built after 1973 is alot.
Cars are designed to fail at X miles to a beyond repair status. That is how Car Companies sell NEW cars.

DON'T!BUY IT. ASK IF YOU CAN TEST IT TURN ON AC , ALL LAMPS . AUDIO STOP AND SPEED UP, TRY TOO HEAT IT UP , AT THE TIME TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC TO CHECK LEAKAGE OF OIL ON SPARK PLUGS, CHECK TR-ANY AND YOU ALTERNATOR ALL SO CHECK YOU TIRES FOR WAR IN THE INNER .

It depends on the person u bought it from. When u buy a car from a private party, You have no warranty, unless he says in writing he will give a 30 day warranty, if he refuses, then u know it is not worth it, he has not any faith in the car, so why should u buy it
It also depends how he maintains it, if he changed the oil & filters & did a tune up every 30,000 within the range limit. but then u buy it & bam, u blow an engine You r out 2 grand & a worthless car. l would not ever buy a car with over 100,000 miles on it.
If it is a stick shift, the clutches r only good for 100,000 miles. An automatic transmission also can wear out. Drives good & looks good do not mean nothing. dealers go by Kelly Blue Book, not Nada.com. The car is 12 years old. The average driver puts on 12,000 miles a year, that is 144,000 miles, at 15,000 miles it is 180,000 miles, so it is up to you. Just my honest opinion, been there, done that! good luck.

The only thing you need to worry about is the body. Make sure there are no rust spots anywhere, check the under carriage and fenders especially.

Just about all 4 cyl Japanese rebuilt engines cost around US$200, trannies go for about the same. Making them for cheap repairs.

What are you getting with a Subaru vs a Honda/Toyota, all the Subaru is are all wheel drive. Do you live where it snows, rains, or live out in the boonies?

It is false that newer cars r designed to fail at a certain number of miles. It is also false that a Subaru would not last nearly as long as a Honda or Toyota.

Having said that, 200,000 miles is a lot of mileage. However, if well-maintained, a 95 Legacy could still very easily give u another 50,000 or 100,000 miles. l would definitely ask for thorough info about prior maintenance & repairs, & check for rust. In my experience, in harsh climates, rust to the body & exhaust is the biggest source of repairs after 10 years of age, & it spreads fairly quickly once started.

My 96 Legacy wagon has over 350,000 miles on original motor and trans and rear diff. l think l have replaced just about everything else as far as brakes shocks cv axles ball joints tie rod ends fuel pump etc. l will keep it for another 11 years. Great car.

If it was maintained properly it should go for another 100,000 miles.

If it has the 2.5, forget it. If it is automatic, forget it. Those 2 things made by Subaru were utter crap. The 2.2s and 5 speeds go forever though, and $2K sounds fair.

95 was an awesome year for the legacy.all were 2.2 liter.non-interference obd I l engines. l think best motor Subaru ever made.if it is properly maintained will go forever. things to check. if awd.that all tires r same brand & size (if not.do not buy.too much stress on the awd system) also drive in tight circles to check or torque bind (if it feels like something is binding.jerking.it will need dive train work.usually result of non matching tires. Also check service records.should have new timing belt every100,000, at that age may be due for that service.and probably engine seals (Subaru is mark their territory). Check the back passenger lower engine for the very common separator plate leak, if present engine must be removed to fix. l would pay that if there was no rust & the engine service was recent. otherwise..i would not pay over 1000 to 1500 depending on condition. They r easy to work on tho, if u r handy.
Callaway     Reply with quote
l WOULD NOT PAY MORE THAN 1200 BECAUSE IT HAS 200K ON IT AND MOST OF WHAT l SEE DIE AROUND 250K

l would say if the car is been properly maintained it is worth it. Ask the seller if they have the service records, and have a mechanic check the car out so that you can avoid replacing a transmission, or other costly hidden problems. But, go for it, do your homework. Subaru is are great cars and know to go and go and go. good luck.
