A subaru is a good car,period.They are very dependable. l have a 97 Legacy wagon and l wouldnt trade it for a million bucks.Especially if its snowy.

Subarus r all wheel drive, so u wo not be able to operate in 2WD mode. l drive an Outback, & l will say it is a blast to drive. At the same time, however, l do not think the MPG is that impressive. When l had a 20 mile commute I'd get 25-26 MPG, a far cry from the 33-35 my old VW Golf used to get. My Outback is a heavy car. l would say u could get a couple of MPG better in the Impreza if it is running well, depending of course on ur driving habits & ur mix of city & highway driving.

You could do. It depends on what you can afford and you like.
l would go for a small car like a Citreon Saxo, Renault Clio or Peugeot 106. Hope it helps

Yes they are good, and they should get between 28-30 mpg.

The Impreza is a very good car. Subarus in general are very reliable and the Impreza is one of Subaru is more reliable models. If well maintained, it could easily last to 200,000 miles. All Subarus built after 1996 were AWD and there is no 2WD mode, but you will still get mileage in the 25-30 mpg range. That is less than comparable FWD cars such as the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla but better than just about any other AWD vehicle.

Subaru is a good car, period. But it is expensive on insurance, gas and repairs, especially older models. Check oil leaks and catalytic converter ($$$). Make sure the car is inspected by a certified mechanic before buying. 100$ of inspection might save you 1000$ is of repairs.

If you can find a 2wd model (or the 4WD that can be de-activated) you can get an average 9litres/100km IF the engine is in top shape. The all-time awd is nothing less than 11litres/100km.

l have a 2001 Impreza 2.5RS Coupe (the '99-'01 models r all basically the same), & l can tell u that it is a blast to drive, handles extremely well, & is very reliable. l would say that any Impreza between '96 & '00 would be a great first car; they r also starting to be seen going around $6000.

With my driving habits, l average 24mpg, but it has ranged anywhere between ~20 to 28mpg. The later Impreza models r all AWD, but the older model year Imprezas were offered with FWD drivetrains.

Other than that, u can turn my car (2001 automatic) into FWD mode, but it is intended to be used only for emergency towing or short distances; it is said that the back wheels still spin even in this mode.
