cars.com does not even recognize the subaru outback as a model in 1997, neither does fueleconomy.gov and autotrader.com has this information listed as ''not available''Whyyyy is this information not found anywhere????And what does a subaru outback wagon get for gas mileage. Im hoping its low because my dad wants me to have that as my car.... but l really really really do not want a station wagon.

Less in real life driving, the Subaru is are not that great on fuel as the AWD in them sends a certain percentage of power to the rear wheels all the time and switch to 50/50 when fronts are loosing traction. It is never just a front wheel drive.

You should expect 20 mpg city, and when the head gaskets go out you should drop to 17 city. You will have a hard time figuring highway mpg since the head gaskets will cause the car to lose its coolant at highway speeds. The car will overheat and you will be sitting on the side of the road. Now..if the gaskets have been changed..you should get 25-27 highway.

The Outback was a variation on the Legacy model and it was not considered a separate model line until more recently.

Is it The DOHC engine or the SOHC? Does it haves AWD or FWD? Is it manual or automatic? It could vary depending on these variables. 18-22 City and 21-25 highway MPG.

l own a 2001 Subaru Outback Limited H4. EPA estimates for the 2.5 H4 is 19/city and 25/highway. Expect 20 miles per gallon overall.
