How much weight can you put in a 2000 Subaru legacy wagon

l have a 2000 Subaru legacy wagon and l am building a walk way to my house. l need sand for this walk way. the bags are 50lbs each. how much weight can l safely put in the back of my Subaru?

l would not go more than a dozen bags.

The maximum weight you can put into that wagon including passengers is 500kg, about 1100lbs. So really if you where the only one in the wagon you can put in about 15 to 17 bags but spread them out and do not just load them all at the very back, put some on the front passenger floor area and the back starting right behind the front seats.

It is rated for up to 1,000 pounds

Total weight in the car 1000 pounds. Total towing is about 2000 pounds.

The last three generations of the Legacy wagon, from 1995 to the present (and likely the first generation as well) all have a manufacturer-rated carrying capacity (passengers and cargo) of 900 lb. The Legacy will handle this much weight very well (talking from experience with a '96 Legacy loaded to capacity many times).
