Thinking of buying a 2001(Y) Imprezza.Think it is a Mk1 non Turbo.45000 miles. Are they any good ?

good as a council estate runaround.

They are wonderful cars, a little on the boring side when it comes to the interior. Cheap to run but insurance may be a bit on the high side, get a few quotes before you buy it. Also be careful that it has not been thrashed by a boy racer.

It is if you buy it for about $7500 out the door. Otherwise, you had better buy an extended warranty. Good Luck!

if it is a non turbo, it is usually the sport model.. . .

They're not bad cars, but the sport is not exactly quick (in general - not compared to the turbo), & it does not look much in standard form unless someone is made it into a wrx /turbo look-a-like - in which case- you're insurance could be as much as it would be to insure the turbo model.
Make sure u HP l it! they're a favourate for being stolen etc.

Get an insurance quote for turbo & non turbo models
Check out the RB5 model - really smart looking 215bhp thereabouts, Insurance group 17, smart interior etc.

They r great, but if u can stretch to & afford to run it, get a Turbo with a good service history. l had one of similar vintage & still miss it daily, but changed jobs & the family grew. Reckon on £1000-1200 pa for insurance with full clean no-claims, 25 mpg & £300 for a service which u HAVE to do twice a year regardless of mileage, & do not skimp on decent boots - Bridgestone Potenzas or Goodyear Eagle F1 is at £150 a corner. Great fun, & pretty much bulletproof whether u go turbo o not.

Put it this way. if l could put one of the kids on e-bay, I'd have another one in a heartbeat

it is a good car and if you truely wanted a turbo model you can find an aftermarket kit from sts turbo and you can go from there .. mild to wild or whatever you want. but as is, it is a good car .

If the car was maintained, then you should be okay. They are very durable, dependable, reliable. good on gas and handling, safety. The AWD is fantastic. These are great cars, you will enjoy it.

Ive just had one as a courtesy car (non turbo as you said) - they are quite a dull drive - like a focus 1800
