Put 4 quarts and check level - should be OK. Make sure level is checked after you ran the engine for a few seconds, and let it sit for a couple of minutes to let oil drain back into the pan. DO NOT OVERFILL!

For ur 2001 Subaru Impreza Outback AWD:

Transfer Case Capacity 4 1/5 Quarts

Transfer case is integral with transmission & share
the same fluid. Capacity shown is the ''Total amount''
of fluid for transfer case & transmission together.

Get a Haynes Repair Manual at the local Auto Zone or auto parts store in ur area. It will troubleshoot & show u how to fix ur vehicle. Also on the Auto Zone site has a section for vehicle maintenance
