I am thinking of trading in my 2003 M3 for a new (06-07) STi... but I am worried about their longevity. How long will they last, and are they reliable?

Subarus are supposed to be reliable, but a friend of mine had one that he had to take to the dealer every other week untill he finally sold it after 3 years. Keep that M3!

Subaru is are extremely reliable! Especially the STi. l have an 06 STi and love it. Never have any problems with it. FYI: The Subaru Boxer engine is meant to last a long time. (Also known as Horizontally Opposed). Before l bought the STI, l had a 1990 Subaru Legacy with 300,000 miles on it and it still ran perfectly when l sold it. If you take good care of it, it should last 20-30 years in good condition! Just keep it tuned up and it will perform excellently! Just buy it!

If the car is maintained properly it will last up to 250,000 miles +. They r very reliable & very well engineered. l have driven Subaru is & l am on my third in 21 years. 3/21 = 7 years. Plus the resale value is great. The handling & the safety r great. Do not modify or street race it because u will void the warranty. The M3 is nice but u wil enjoy the WRX sti more. Take it for a good test drive. Depending on what ur needs r the WRX might suit ur requirements plus u can save a few bucks.

hmmmmm. Well u r talking about two great cars. The deciding factor for me would be where do u live? If u get snow then u know that the m3 is useless due to the rear wheel drive. Now if u plan on customizing the cars l would say that getting the ST l is the way to go. Ya there r kits out there for the m3 but it is soo expensive to put them in due to it being an BMW. And also after u get so much HP in the m3 it just becomes a spin machine. The back wheels dont grip. There is a tun of options for the ST l & with it being AWD ur can get up to 450 whp & the thing will still grip & go.

To answer ur question about the longevity the answer is ooooooo yaaaaa. My parents had a subaru & it lasted them 223,000. The only reason why the sold it was they liked the new body style that came out in 05. So they got the same car again. Ya they had to do breaks, shocks, tires oil changes etc but in what car do u not have to do that when u drive it everyday.
