is it ok if l just put a turbo back exhaust and not and entire exhaust systems (cat-back, headers etc...).will a turbo back exhaust make the turbo noises more louder and heard? l have a 2003 subaru sti and l was wondering if it is ok to put a boost controller on it?

The only thing that will make the ''turbo noises'' louder is a bigger turbo & BOV. As far as the exhaust its only going to make the exhaust louder & lower pitch. You can add a boost controller to ur car but be careful with upping the boost without changing ur fuel delivery. You could lean out the fuel & grenade ur motor. You should check wiht magazines that run project builds with STis & cover all these topics & more. Check out Sport Compact Car & Modified magazines for their build ups on STis.

l believe the sound you are looking for, you will need a bigger bov(blow off valve). The exhaust will give you better performance, but not bigger turbo sound. l believe a controller will work, but get one that is compatible with your car.
For more go to the link l have provided.

Well, a turbo back system usually consist of ur down pipe(pipe of ur turbo outlet) Your mid pipe(which contains ur catalytic converter) And ur cat-back exhaust which contains a rear exhaust pipe(a resonator is located here) & an axle back(this is where the muffler is) hence the name cat back exhaust because it is mounted after the catalytic converter. To answer ur question about the turbo back exhaust yes it would be okay because for the simple fact that it would have less restriction than the factory exhaust. If u do not want to spend the extra money u do not have to get headers for it but it would unlock some extra horsepower if u do. You would definitely notice an improvement in horsepower & fuel economy. You will here a slight increase in turbo spool(noise)because the exhaust system helps the turbo spool up a bit faster. If u really want to here the turbo spool up, remove the resonator of of ur air intake system( the huge black plastic thing in front of the engine). As far as the boost controller, l would not advice it at the moment if ur car is stock because people r prone to get ''boost happy.'' l would advice u to just putting on simple bolt ons u can do ur self such as the turbo back exhaust headers cold air intake so the car can breath a little better. You will be surprise how much this will gain horsepower especially on a turbo vehicle.

Depends which noise you're looking for. If u want to hear the induction whine an intake is the answer(big debate on intakes but u r interested in noise not performance), u will also be able to hear the stock BPV quite well. If u really want to hear some serious turbo noise, try a rotated turbo with a pod intake, my GT35R HOWLS. If you'd like everyone else to hear the whine of hot side of the turbo, a nice catless TBE is for you, as an added bonus u can shoot fireballs out of the back(mine does).
As yours is not a USDM ST l l can not comment on a manual boost controller, personally you're better off getting some aftermarket engine management & just setting the boost target higher, & tuning for it if u want more boost, like a Hydra FTMFW. When l change boost l make the whole map dog rich, up the boost, then tune with a wideband. Simply adding an MBC is risky to me, the idea of going lean makes my willy shrivel.
Headers on a 2.0L r a bit subjective, u WILL lose some low end power due to heat retention, but the top end u gain is pretty happy.
Funny how the ignorant like to give u a thumbs down. l have owned a 95 Impreza L with Spec C transplant, a 330whp PE1820 powered WRX Wagon & now a 438whp GT35R powered STi. It is obvious some of the folks here have no idea what they r talking about & just prefer to give u a thumbs down, like the pimpinin guy below.
Oh & for the guy talking BS about buying a crawford block, why would u stick with the same displacement if u r going with built block, especially an aftermarket one, it is cheaper to just go with a 2.5L bottom end, & u get more power out of it. Also look up ''crawford bobblehead'' before u even think about one of Quirts blocks.
Also the compression ratio of a wrx motor makes it hell without the turbo this pimpinin719 monkey does not know how butt from a hole in the ground there is no way in HELL his motor makes 300hp without the turbo. l have .5l more & setting 100% wastegate duty cycle, it does not even put 200hp to the ground. And 20lb boost turbo???? what BS, psi has NOTHING to do with HP, flow does. Like a GT35R running 22psi will flow FAR more than a PE1820 at 22psi, but the PE1820 will spool up much quicker.
There is no need to be a liar Pimpinin719.

l really dont think u want to buy a turbo back exhaust system without a cat or header. Im sure it will not mess it up. But if u do buy the turbo back exhaust system make sure it comes with a header, down pipe, up pipe, catylic convertor(fully functional) & obviously ur muffler.. But yes it is a great idea to put a turbo back exhaust system! Make sure it comes with 3'' exhaust pipe! It really doesnt let the turbo make much more noise. But there is more of a deeper rumble with the exhaust system! l have a 2004 wrx with around $10k in upgrades. It a has a 3'' turbo back exhaust sytem, 20lb boost turbo, sti intercooler, k&n intake, full suspension, sti wing, bigger than sti hood scoop, air/fuel gauge, turbo gauge & the oil pressure gauge. With out the turbo the engine produces about 300 horse power to all wheels. But with the turbo the engine is producing well over 350 horses. With a crawford 2.0t block, which l am getting ready to purchase.. The car will be pushing over 400 horses.
