l owned a 93. It was a great car but blew a headgasket. l suggest that you take the car to a mechanic to check out. If he says it is good and it is reasonable l would seriously consider it.
l have heard that the original headbolts were to soft. Tbhere are mechanics that switch the headbolt before the gasket blows. You probably cannot afford that. So do not buy that concept from anyone.

Do not know what you are paying for it, but a car with 150k miles on it can get expensive fast!
why not try to lease a Honda civic for around $159.00 a month?
You are better off leasing a car and getting a new car every 2 years.

l have a 1997 Brighton Coupe with$150k on it, as well as a 1999 Legacy Wagon. l have had transmission problems on both of them. Then 1999 replace already, the 1997 will need to have it swapped out next year. Also, parts r expensive & sometimes hard to find at all. If u plan ahead, & can network through local junkyard, u should be ok, because u should not need parts often. The 2.2l engines r know to last ''forever'' . making it worth any other upkeep. l love my Subarus, saving my but a few times with the AWD.

l drive a 96 Legacy wagon with 140k miles, & it is a fantastic car. Although reliability has not been spotless, l could not have asked for any better. Overall, Subaru has a top-notch reliability record, whether for new or used cars. If you're in any place that sees winter snows & salted roads, the car is worst enemy after 10 years of age is rust. In my experience, all repairs in the last 2-3 years have been rust-related: the body, exhaust system, brakes & fuel filler pipe have been worked on or replaced because of rust. However, the overall underbody & door sills r quite rust-resistant.

The driveline, engine & transmission will last a long time. The 2.2 L engine in the mid-90 is Legacy is extremely reliable--it is one of Subaru is best engines. It does not suffer from head gasket problems like early 2.5 L engines.

l should add that although not that much generally goes wrong, when something does, parts can be expensive & hard to find, & many general mechanics r not familiar with the car is layout. However, once u know what to do, the car is not hard to work on.

The car has many other virtues aside from reliability. It drives more like a sports sedan than a wagon, it can handle large or heavy loads surprisingly well, it is fairly fuel-efficient & its performance is unbelievable in bad weather & winter. I've driven through snow banks, up ice slopes & even off-road--the only thing it is missing to be able to follow a true 4x4 is more ground clearance.

150k miles is a fair amount, so l would have it undergo a mechanical inspection before buying. However, if it is in good shape, l would easily recommend the car.

They will go 200k miles: If they have been maintained! Inspect the records of service, keep close eye on the cam belt and CV joints. should have each been done once if not twice by now.
