Heck yeah! l own a Forester and l will never buy a non Subaru ever again. they handle well, are safe to drive, look cool - just watch the fuel consumption.. in short - yes it is a very good make of car.

If Travis Pastrana raced in one, crashed, and came running out going ''YEE-HAW! then it is probably a good make.

It depends on how YOU define ''good.'' Are u thinking about reliaility, safety, comfort, handling, fun-to-drive factor???

Consumer Reports annual auto edition just came out & the Legacy scored very well on reliability.

l know that u can not go to the web site without a paid subscription, but here is what l find.

To predict reliability of new cars, they take data from the previous three model years & compile & compare. The list for ''Family Cars'' is as follows from most reliable on down. The number is the ''predicted precent better than average,'' but l am trying to read that from a bar graph, so it is not exact.

Honda Accord Hybrid - 76% Better than average
Toyota Prius - 67% Better than average
Honda Accord (4-cyl.) - 62% Better than average
Mercury Milan - 48% Better than average
Ford Fusion - 48% Better than average
Toyota Camry (V6) - 43% Better than average
Honda Accord (V6) - 40% Better than average
Subaru Outback (H6) - 39% Better than average
Subaru Legacy (Turbo) - 34% Better than average
Subaru Outback (H4, Turbo) - 31% Better than average
Subaru Legacy (non-turbo) - 28% Better than average
Nissan Altima (V6, 2006) - 28% Better than average

and so on, through VW, Buick, Hyundai, Chrysler, Chevy, Pontiac, Mazda, Toyota 4-cyl's, etc.

As a brand, Subaru ranks 6th in Consumer Reports' 2007 Auto issue, behind:

1. Toyota
2. Honda
3. Scion
4. Acura
5. Lexus
6. Subaru

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced its list of Top Safety Picks for 2007. Among the winners r two Audis, three Subarus, two Hondas, & one model each from Acura, Mercedes, Saab & Volvo. Absent r any models by American automakers or Japanese behemoth Toyota. The standards for the award this year r a bit tougher than in the past, but something to strive for. Not only must vehicles score top safety ratings in front, side & rear crash tests, they also must be equipped with electronic stability control.

Okay, Subaru is r reliable & safe, but so is a Marshall tank. Are they fun to drive? Read the above me for a general consensus on that.

l have had an Outback since June, 2006, but I've already owned two of them. l bought the 2.5 first, thinking I'd be just fine with 175 HP, but after 8 years with a 200 HP V-6 in a Honda Accord, l just thought l was beating the 4-cylinder to death. Not that it is not made to take it, though. In January, 2007, l got the 3.0 LL Bean Outback. Overall, I'd easily say that the Outback 3.0 is on par with the 1999 Accord 3.0 that l had. It is is a very good car unless u r looking for a rolling living room like a Buick or a Lincoln. The AWD, VDC, TCS & all those other letters r a really good set-up, too. It is a very smooth engine & it sounds great when u push it a bit.

l had the 2.5 for 7 months & I've had the 3.0 since January 20. (My daughter is now the proud owner of my 2006 Outback 2.5.) l think the upgrade was well worthwhile. There is SO much more about this car that is better than the 2.5i. If u can find one, buy it.

The only negative factor is rather poor city gas mileage, but l also admit that l never give the car a chance to warm up! l drive many short, short trips, though, & l find that my daily gas mileage is poor. l live 1.3 miles from work, so unless l go out of town, l find that l am getting only about 16 MPG on these ultra-short trips. If l get some longer trips into the mix, l get about 18-19 MPG. On the highway, l easily get about 22-24 MPG. The 2.5i 4-cylinder was MUCH better than this, getting close to 30 MPG on the highway & 18 or so with my ultra-short trips.

In any event, as long as u r shopping Subaru, please drive a Legacy wagon or an Outback wagon & compare them to the Forester. To me, the Outback is sort of a luxurystealth SUV.

l used to think I'd never buy anything but Honda, but now l am feeling that way about Subaru.

l own a subaru once. The only thing l didnt have trouble with was the radio.

The only bad thing about a Subaru is the gas mileage compared to other Japanese models. That is it. They have similar reliability and longevity ratings as Toyota and Honda, plus they are not as popular. l have 2 Subarus.
The only thing the brand lacks is top class fuel economy. But you will forget that once you hit snow and see the Civics and Camrys stuck in snow as you happily drive past.
