Hi. l would recommend u use the existing crossbars & save yourself the money of upgrading to another system, like Thule for example. The Subaru ski & snowboard carrier holds up to six pairs of skis or four pairs of skis & poles. May be used to carry snowboards or fishing rods as well. On line for my 2005 outback XT, they go for about $90, but u need to add $10 -$12 for the clamps for ur cross bars. l do not see a listing for 2008 yet, but if u contact a vendor, they may be able to tell u via email or phone. Google Subaru ski. This is a much less expensive option then going for an entirely new system. That said, if u carry bikes & kayaks as well, then u may want to seriously evaluate using the Subaru system vs buying an upgrade (and likely better) such as Thule.
